The rider's age, height, weight, diagnosis and inseam, and for handcycles the arm length. We also ask whether the rider has had a trike before and which model.

Have the rider stand in the shoes they will ride in, with their back against a wall. Place a book spine-up between the legs, snug to the crotch, and measure from the top of the book to the floor. If the rider cannot stand, measure seated from the seat to the floor with the knee at a right angle, and tell us you did.

Choose the frame where today's inseam sits in the lower half of its range. Quick-release adjusters and telescopic posts let seat, handlebars and supports grow with the rider.

Tell us. High-back seats with a chest belt, trunk laterals, chest harnesses and head support are all available, and the Adaptive Bike Builder offers them based on the control level you enter.

Direct drive keeps the pedals moving with the wheels so the legs are moved through the motion, and the Rear Steer handlebar lets a caregiver steer and brake from behind. Footplates with straps keep the feet in place.

Every model lists its weight limit, from 60 lbs on the DCP Mini to 400 lbs on the ET2611 tandem. The AS2000 takes 300 lbs with heavy-duty wheels and the ASR2011 heavy-duty model takes 430 lbs.

The ASR2011 has a 15" step-through and a seat at wheelchair height, and the Defier handcycle has a 16" transfer height. Tell us how the rider transfers today and we will suggest a frame.

Discovery Series bikes are 29" wide and roll through a standard doorway. The AS2000 is 35" wide, with a narrow frame option. Measure your doorways, storage space and vehicle before you order.
